InformationPohutukawa honey is collected from the flowers of the Pohutukawa tree – fondly known as the ‘NZ Christmas tree’, since they decorate themselves with masses of red flowers every summer before Christmas. This is a light-coloured honey with a delicate sweet taste. Some people say they can taste a faint salty hint in Pohutukawa honey from the coastal climate the trees grow in. This particular batch of Pohutukawa honey came from a few apiaries situated on some of the islands of the Bay of Islands, Northland – a unique coastal setting that is hard to beat. This season’s batch has a bit of Kanuka honey in it, tinting the batch a slightly darker colour than is usual for Pohutukawa but it still has the beautiful Pohutukawa taste. Due to a different extraction method, this honey batch has tiny specks of wax in it (harmless to eat) … au naturel! This honey was harvested by boat between Christmas and New Years 2021. Produced by an affiliate beekeeper and brought to you by Don Buck Honey.

About Don Buck Honey
Don Buck Honey is a small one-man beekeeping operation based in Massey, West Auckland. I started small-commercial beekeeping in 2014, and in 2019 started selling my honey in pots under the name ‘Don Buck Honey’, after the name of the main road through my neighbourhood. I have hives in rural and forest parts of Northwest Auckland, as well as in the Whangaroa region of the Far North. Some of the honey batches are produced by my own hives, while others are from my father-in-law's hives in the Far North and in the Bay of Islands.
