InformationBlack Collar Spiced Pineapple Rum is the ultimate sipping rum with a wooden label! Ripe, juicy pineapples are slowly roasted over a bed of red-hot coconut charcoal then infused into our award-winning Black Collar Rum and barrel rested. People may have wondered why a distillery would be accepting a delivery of boxes and boxes of pineapples. However, we were ready and waiting to start our most exciting and innovative project to date… spiced pineapple rum. We got on the phone and dragged our good friend Barbecue BOI over to help us slow roast a mountain of pineapples over a bed of red hot coconut charcoal in Pit Barrels. As far as we’re concerned, this is the best way to intensify the pineapple hit and make it unique to our rum – old school low and slow with full flavour. Infusing the rum with the pineapples delivered a unique flavour combination, which we repeated many times over to perfect the flavour to exactly what we were looking for. We then put it back into our oak barrels to age, rest up and develop further for that full bodied Black Collar flavour. To celebrate our first limited edition Black Collar rum, we chose a slightly different material for our label - wood. Yes, you read that right, wood. We’re the first in NZ to print this way and we’re really happy with the result. Each label has a slightly different woodgrain to reflect the handcrafted nature of our Black Collar products. 700 Ml. /40.0% ABV
About Black Collar Distillery
We were always on the hunt for good tasting spirits with depth and flavour that didn’t break the bank and never quite finding any that quite hit the spot, we wondered just how difficult it would be to make our own… After a lot of research, discussion and debate (over many, many drinks!), we had a plan that later developed into the Black Collar Distillery we have today. We spent years researching the craft of producing spirits. This included everything from processes to equipment like stills, tanks, pumps, regulations to flavour and then which botanicals to use, what are complementary pairings and what would give our spirits that depth and flavour we’d been searching for? Our tests were exhaustive, sometimes frustrating but ultimately highly refreshing! Once we’d finally established the combinations of everything that produced the unique Black Collar taste, we knew we were in this for real. Even with a great tasting product, the drinks industry is a scary one to enter. Dominated by huge global players, producing for the mass market, we felt like the underdog right from the start. Not even sure if we had a chance of lasting a month, we had put everything into this and with the odds stacked so highly against us, we knew that our hunger and determination to deliver top quality spirits would be key to our success. Every revolution starts with one voice and we had just kicked off ours - Black Collar was alive.
