TGFC Producer Spotlight

Introducing FOUR AVES coffee

FOUR AVES coffee is created out of The Coffee Workshop on Essex Street in Christchurch. Here Reuben, roasting expert, shares more about the delicious blends they create and their commitment to making top-quality roasted coffee beans accessible to all coffee lovers without breaking the bank!

TGFC/ How did you get started?
Reuben/ We have a passion for coffee and started wholesaling green coffee beans and supplying micro roasting solutions, looking for ways to make the cafe and coffee industry more affordable for our clients. We began roasting our FOUR AVES coffee and supplying cafes more recently because we believed we could provide a fantastic local New Zealand product and a level of service that would appeal to our customers. Many of our competitor brands are now owned by large corporate companies and not NZ owned.

TGFC/ What makes FOUR AVES coffee special?
Reuben/ Our blends are special because we are a small company who take genuine care in our relationships with customers and can personalise solutions for any particular needs. We are able to keep our overheads to minimum, keeping our prices very competitive.

When you talk to us, you are talking to the people who roast the coffee! We also have a cool little cafe (Vinyl Cafe) out the front of our roaster where you can call in and try some of our coffee or pick your own special blend to be roasted to your personal preference.

TGFC/ What type of blends does FOUR AVES coffee create?

Reuben/ We produce a number of FOUR AVES coffee blends including Fitzgerald, Essex, Bealey, Moorhouse and Deans Decaf (all named after well-known local Avenues and roads in Christchurch). Personally, I enjoy a simple long black in our Moorhouse blend.

TGFC/ What are the most popular blends?
Reuben/ We sell a lot of Fitzgerald, Essex and Moorhouse through local supermarkets and cafes. RIght now Fitzgerald is available on The Good Food Collective with more options to be added soon.

TGFC/So, how do you enjoy your coffee?
Reuben/ I take my coffee as a simple long black, sometimes with a dash of cream.
